Question:
The graph shows the amount of money spend on books in Germany, France, Italy and Austria between 1995 and 2005.
My paraphrase:
The line graph illustrates the expenditure on ( or of ?) books in four European countries from 1995 to 2005.
Is my paraphrase correct?
Could you tell me how to use 'expenditure' ?

The graph shows the amount of money SPENT on books in Germany, France, Italy and Austria between 1995 and 2005.
The line graph illustrates the expenditure ON books in four European countries from 1995 to 2005.

I'm in America and we say expenditure FOR books. So, I would say, "The line graph illustrates the expenditure for books in four European countries from 1995 to 2005."
