'so' is an adverb and here it means 'in this way'. The whole sentence: There is no use doing it in this way. To do it in this way doesn't pay. You can't get anywhere doing it in this way.

In English you would probably say something like "That won't work at all." And "so" is an adverb and here it means something like "doing it that way"  indeed. "Wenn du das auf diese Weise machst, bringt das nichts."
