What's the difference between joking and kidding?
Or are synonymous? In what context it is used then?

There is a slight difference. I think that joking is always done to try to make someone laugh. Kidding is often similar to teasing or can be something that someone does that is not meant to be serious but is not meant to invoke laughter. Sarcasm could be a type of kidding.
They are the same in that they both describe behavior that is not meant to be serious.
