"Parece cosa grave", también está bien dicho, por ejemplo:
Está muy preocupado, parece cosa grave.
La diferencia es sutil, aunque suele emplearse más "una cosa", pero sin artículo tampoco es incorrecto

You'd always use the article. 'Una cosa grave'.
