What is the meaning of "wash height" (topography) in something related to habitat description? Hi! I'm making a investigation from habitat description. The autor describe a variable by" visual estimation of wash height", but i don't understand what he means with "wash""Our topographic index was determined by visual estimation of wash height along two 250-m transects radiating from the burrow and oriented perpendicular to local wash terrain. All wash heights were summed to produce the topographic index."

I googled the entire phrase and found the original text. A 'wash' is a particular type of landscape in the Mojave Desert. This site contains this definition "WASH - A narrow, constricting dry bed of an intermittent stream, as at the bottom of a canyon, typically dry but subject to rapid flow during flash flooding", and a glossary of terms you might find useful: http://mojavedesert.net/glossary/wash.html

It's very technical. It has a very specific meaning in the technical field in question. All your text is technical. As the habitat is desert, it really is hard to guess. I couldn't even see the term on a Google search. Check if the author has defined the term earlier in his or her own work.

Sounds like waves? Not like energy, but like ocean/water? Could you provide more information?

More context would be helpful. Can you provide several sentences around and including the sentence in question?
