in the pudding club == being pregnant? why is that Hi, the other day a friend of mine told me that she was in the pudding club, and I later learned that this idiom means that she is pregnant. But I don't get it, can any one explain to me why this phrase means pregnant. Thanks a lot!

Ah well, it's explained here, alongside another phrase, "up the duff". http://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/397300.html To tell the truth, we just accept the phrase with its meaning, and we don't look too closely into it.
