How does it make a punchline in this joke? Is there a second meaning of “pants” ? ——What would you say if a man walked in here with no shirt, and I hired him? What would you say? —— He must have had on some really nice pants. How does it make a punchline in this joke? Is there a second definition of “pants“?

In American English pants means trousers. This is what is meant in the joke. The British English version would be: ——What would you say if a man walked in here with no shirt, and I hired him? —— He must have had some really nice trousers on .
