What's the different between of itch and pruritus?

Only medical specialists use "pruritus". The regular word is "itch".

I know what "itch" means. I would have to look up "pruritis" in a dictionary to see exactly what it means.
If you want to be understood by your listeners, use "itch" (unless you're a doctor or nurse talking to other doctors or nurses).
