What's the difference when writing the following essays?
Hi,I am currently applying for United World College. In the application form, there are two essays I need to write for a maximum 750 words. The first one is what can you contribute to UWC?The other one is Why are you interested in attending a UWC?I find that there will be some repeat content when I was writing. So,my basic logic flow for the first composition is to integrate UWC mission and value into my personal experience(both internal and external). To list some of my traits that have some similarity with the UWC mission and value and give some supporting reasons. Also, illustrate how do I embody them and deploy in real life.Nevertheless, I think the second question is pretty much the same with the first one(actually the second question is put forward first in the application form). Can I understand that the second question is more free and open and have less attention on the connection with its mission and value? What should I regard and take notice of when I am writing these two essays?

Hi Silvia
I think you are absolutely right. These questions are not the same (one is asking WHAT you can bring to the school (skills, traits etc) and the second is asking WHY you want to go there (your reasons), but there could well be crossover between them, so you'll have to plan each one to prevent any direct repetition. However, you could touch on the same material, but write about it in different way. For example: for question 1, you might mention the languages that you can speak, and in question 2, you could say that your interest in learning languages has driven your desire to apply for this school. Obviously, I have simplified these answers, but I hope it shows how you might work around any similar content.
In addition, there is a lot of advice online, and I'm not saying you have to follow it, but it might give you some ideas and help you decide how to design your own responses. These are just two I found:

Your ideas for the first question sound good. For the second question you could think about what you would like to gain from attending, and why you chose them over another similar organisation.
