dopey-eyed When it is said "big dopey-eyed characters", does it mean "half-open sleepy eyes" or "stupid eyes (like those of Goofy)"?

Both of these meanings are be correct. 'Dopey' means: Half-asleep or semi conscious. It also means: Silly or stupid (this is slang) It can also be spelled 'dopy'. It's the same word.
