Russian book recommendations
What good Russian books can you recommend?
Nothing over 100 years old or with a complicated style. The grammar and vocabulary mustn't be too complicated. However I am not interested in children's books. I'm enjoying some of Беляев's novels at the moment so anything similar would be great.

You might like "'Adventures of Erast Fandorin'' series by Boris Akunin. Those are historical detective novels, not that long, very simple style, and, I suppose, simple vocabulary, although they take place in the 19th century (your favorite period). Also, they are extremely popular, so that it will be a very good topic to drop in conversation -- everybody knows them.

If you're intrested in science fiction, you can pay attention to such authors as Сергей Лукьяненко (http://knijky.ru/authors/sergey-lukyanenko) or Андрей Ливадный (http://knijky.ru/authors/andrey-livadnyy). In the genre of fantasy I recommend Александр Бушков, his cycle about Сварог (first three or four parts: "Рыцарь из ниоткуда", "Летающие острова", "Нечаянный король"). In the genre of criminal: the same author, his books "Стервятник", "Охота на пиранью", "Бульдожья схватка" (http://knijky.ru/authors/aleksandr-bushkov). And more I could you recommend Георгий Вайнер "Умножающий печаль" (http://e-libra.ru/read/134451-umnozhayushhij-pechal.html). In the genre of military prose (Afghanistan, Chechnya, Donbass) you can pay attention to such authors as Сергей Щербаков (http://okopka.ru/s/sherbakow_s_a/) and Глеб Бобров (http://lib.ru/MEMUARY/AFGAN/BOBROW_G/ ; http://okopka.ru/b/bobrow_g_l/). And about simplicity of the texts judge for yourself))

In case your goal is to read in Russian rather than reading Russian literature, I'd suggest re-reading in Russian something you've really enjoyed in English.
I see that you love science fiction books, so check out some of these novels: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andromeda_(novel)
