Ground means to "forbid you from going out of the house for a period of time as a punishment for doing something"'

Here in America 'grounding' would be referring to confining the person to the house as a punishment, typically for a specified time. It might also includes 'no talking to friends', taking away a cell phone, set hours they might have to study at home.
