Sí, es diferente a ¨supermercado¨.
¨Department store¨ se dice ¨tienda por/de departamentos¨
Usualmente, hablamos de ¨supermercado¨ cuando nos referimos a un establecimiento en donde se vende comida y nos referimos a ¨tienda por departamentos¨ cuando hablamos de un establecimiento en donde se vende una mayor variedad de artículos, incluyendo o no comida, ejemplo: K-Mart
Usually, we say ¨supermarket¨ to refer to place where food its sold and we talk about ¨department store¨ when we want to mention a place like warehouse where a broader type of products are sold, including or not food, example: K-Mart.
