Is there a difference between self-reliance and self-confidence?

Yes, and it's a big one.
Self-reliance is when you depend on yourself, your parents don't give you money, you work hard and you don't rely on some one else to help you.
Self-confidence is a feeling, too much of it can make you seem cocky or arrogant or narcissistic , too little can make you seem anxious/worried/shy.
You can be confident that you are self reliant but that doesn't necessarily mean that people see you as a self-reliant person
