Is this ok? The dog broke the new clothes so its owner beat the dog.
Thanks

Hi Helen
It is not good English. The dog could ruin the clothes, or the dog could tear the clothes, or the dog could make holes in the clothes. But we don't say "break the clothes". The word "break' is usually used for things that are rigid. You can break a glass, or break a window, because these are rigid. But clothes are soft and flexible, so you wouldn't break them.
