can we use a verb 'engage' when we mean to have a lesson or study?
for instance, I'd like to engage (with or in. I'm not sure what preposition is correct) English two times a week.

I would like to engage in an English lesson/conversation once or twice a week....that is perfect. Other choices might be:
I would like to participate in...
I would like to do conversation...
to engage is really great, something a mature person might say more than say a teenager. Sort of a higher level of language use, but very correct. You might say to a person on iTalki, "I would like to engage in conversation with you" but in spoken language you are more likely to say, "I would like to have a conversation with you"
