le fleuve et la rivière ils sont same???

La rivière est un affluent d'un fleuve. Elle se déversera dans une autre rivière ou dans un fleuve.
Le fleuve, quand à lui, se déversera toujours dans la mer.
Bearing in mind that I'm not an English speaker, I think that in English, both of them are translated with the same word "river". And if you want to understand the difference between the two French words what about using: "tributary" for "rivière" and "river" for "fleuve" ?
