what's the opposite of 'crane one's neck'? I want to discribe a person who retract his neck in the collar because of the cold weather. I mean his shoulders would rise towards the ears causing the neck to seemingly “disappear.” he walked by a shop quickly, _________ due to the cold weather.

@rebecca: thanks, ah, it's another good option. not sure if there's any expression with 'neck' in it. (Gary used shoulder, you used chin)
