Language is the same in all those regions. Italian was "created" as a standard language, mixing up Lombardy and Tuscany (mainly) dialects, in the mid of 19th century. Before dialects were used, in Italy, swiss and other italian speaking areas as well. Non "Italian" regions were influenced by the nearest italian region. For example, the Ticinese dialect is very close to the one of Milan area, and is still nowadays widely spoken. Standard Italian has been spreaded and taught, with strong political pressure, as a school language year after year in Italy as well as in the areas out of the country. So it was at the beginning a sort of artificial process adopted by regions with Italian heritage and culture. Standard Italian can be considered the main language of the country just since 50 years (depending on the areas).
