what is the meaning of this passage? Men marry women with the hope they will never change .Women marry men with the hope they will change .Invariably they are both disappointed.

When a man and woman are married: he hopes that she will not change (e.g. become old and wrinkly) as they get older. On the other hand, she hopes that he will change - that he will become less of a brute and a slob. Sadly she will change, and he will not.
