Is there any words between 'maybe' and 'the detective'? Peppa Pig episode 2 I am practicing English by trying to write transcripts down when watching Peppa Pig. In episode 2, Mr. Dinosaur is Lost, Mummy Pig was giving a hint to Peppa about what a detective should do. Video is here: https://youtu.be/6xJhCJI5Ixw?t=2m44s I heard she said: maybe, but the detective should ask George some simple questions. However, the transcripts I found is 'maybe the detective should ask George some simple questions.' http://glamour-and-discourse.blogspot.com/p/peppa-pig-episode-transcripts.html#2 I listen this sentence many times, and I still think there is something, even it is not 'but', between 'maybe' and 'the detective'. Is there really nothing there? If there is a word there, what is it?

No. There is nothing between 'maybe' and 'the detective'. It's interesting that you are hearing things that aren't there. Not long ago you heard a Peppa Pig character say 'muds' instead of 'mud'. Bearing in mind the whole Yanny/Laurel affair, I wonder if the recording you have is distorted or at an odd frequency.

Thank you, I have never watched Peppa Pig before. The words are at 2minutes 46 seconds. and your BlogSpot transcriptions are perfect. There are no words between "maybe" and "the detective should ask" , but there is a slight pause, and it does sound like a "b" sound is there, but in general and from the context, there is no word between them, just a pause, like a 'pregnant pause' (a pause where you expect it to have something in it).
