A college "major" is a group of courses or regulated studies that you MUST complete to receive a degree.
On the other hand, a person may choose to "concentrate" on studies that involve perhaps art or history.
These "concentrated" studies may not lead to a degree. They are personal preferences.
Hope this helps

Usually we say major for something you will receive a Degree in, such as Biology, Chemistry, Finance or Business. A concentration could be what is called a minor, something you study but take less classes in ; a concentration could be a specialty within your Major. Such as Biology major with a concentration in Animal Sciences or Genetics.
