What's the difference between scrutiny and investigation? Thank you.

They are quite similar. 'Investigation' is a bit more formal and structured. An official might investigate something as a result of an allegation or a charge. Researchers make structured investigations to try to discover new things.
'Scrutiny' is less formal and structured. It basically means that someone is looking into something a bit more thoroughly than they normally would.
