Spider is a kind/sort of insect.
Should I say “A spider”, “Spiders”, or “The spider”?
“insect” or “insects”?

A spider is a type of insect. 'Kind of insect' would also work.

A spider isn't an insect; it's an arachnid. But it's kind of like an insect.
A good sentence: Spiders are kind of like insects. (If first noun is plural, so is second noun.)
