I think dish may refer to: Dishware, plates and bowls used for serving food
while plate is term for some kind of dish wich is flat and cirle..

Roi q is correct. Plates are a type of dish. Dishes refer to all types of plates and bowls used for eating or serving food. Plates are flat and shallow and come in a variety of sizes are usually circular but can be of any shape.
