Yeah, he's being sarcastic.

He's actually expecting everyone to be impressed by his ability to outrun the Empire but no one says anything so he's disappointed that no one is recognizing his achievement.

I think if he said "Why doesn't anybody thank me?" would sound more whiney and demanding while the sarcastic comment of pretending that everyone is thanking him at the same time while no one is thanking him at all shows more annoyance.
