This is one of my favourite songs, I disagree that is has to be about a man, it could as easily be about an overprotective, scared parent!! , This song always makes me cry as it reminds me soo much of my relationship growing up and in the present with my mum, if you listen to the line, I watched you die, I heard you cry, every night in your sleep,I was so young. You should have known better than to lean on me ,You never thought of anyone else ,You just saw your pain, and now I cry In the middle of the night. I don't like the attitude of this song. Don't find excuse and blame someone else for one's own issues. Stay positive and die try to make a difference. The expression "love is blind" comes to mind. it means when you are in love you do not see what is going on around you and you seem confused. So, in my humble opinion, The singer has feelings for this guy and they are confusing her in other areas of her life.
