" i am lost" is present tense meaning you are currently lost, " i got lost" is past tense as if you were telling your friend about a day or time in the past

Be lost - the state of being lost I am lost/I was lost Passengers say bus driver was lost for hours during trip to NYC. Get lost - A change of state; the end result of the process (of getting lost). I got lost/I have gotten lost The bus driver got lost during trip to NYC. My luggage got lost during trip to Japan.
