payback
i would like to clarify if the following two are essentially same to say payback
i tend to side with second since i knew an expression 죗값 치르다 but dictionary also lists the first instance. Are both used more or less equally?

셈을 치다 and 셈을 치르다 have different meanings each other.
셈(을) 치다 : suppose, assume, grant (that)
셈 means "A bound noun indicating judgment by guessing."
e.g.
셈을 치르다 : pay back, pay off, settle
셈 means "The act of discussing and determining the amount of money or items to be exchanged, or such money or items."
e.g.
