What does it mean 'skimmed milk for crying'?
I'm reading a book about Circe. When Circe asks about Scylla, Hermes tells her and watches her, waiting for her reaction. He wonders, would she be skimmed milk for crying, or a harpy with a heart of stone?
What does it mean 'skimmed milk for crying' here?

It sounds like the old saying, "don't cry over spilt milk". Which means, don't get upset over something you can no longer do anything about.
