Salut, cela dépend du contexte.
Par exemple on dit :
Quand j’étais enfant, j’aimais le chocolat.
J'étais un enfant quand la France a gagné la coupe du monde de football.
Mais personnellement, j’utiliserais la négation :
Je n'étais qu’un enfant quand la France a gagné la coupe du monde de football.
