Hello, could you help me understand the joke in the piece of dialogue below? What does "if it gets cold enough." mean here? Thank you.
Melissa: You really love animals, don't you?
Ace: If it gets cold enough. No, I have a kinship with them.

maybe Ace means that he/she needs the clothes which is made by animal's fur?

It's actually a bit of cynicism. Ace isn't actually so fond of animals. Only if it's very cold he would go near animals, only for warmth.
