"I am a student” --- Я студент ---(said a man)
"I am a student” --- Я студентка --- (said a woman)

Aziza is absolutely right, but it can be translated the following way:
"I am a student” --- Я студент or Я являюсь студентом (for a men)
"I am a student” --- Я студентка or Я являюсь студенткой (for the womans)
is = являться
