Use of "пока" привет, I've heard of the word "пока" used to say "bye bye", however I'm seeing it used differently in this sentence: "вы можете слушать пока вы гуляете". What would it mean in this sentence? If it's meaning "while" or "during" how does that correlate to meaning "bye"? спасибо

Привет. The different uses of "пока": 1) пока (Interjection) - "bye", "I’ll see you later"; 2) пока (Adverb) - "meanwhile", "in the meantime"; 3) пока (Conjunction) - "while", "so long as".

Пока means until... when you say bye bye it means until... short for until we meet...

Hello. We use "пока" in "bye" meaning because it like shortcut of "пока не увидимся" - "until we see you". But how to translate it in common case it is difficult, i think it may be "until" and ''till' and "while" and "during".

"Пока не ... " means "until" - this is the origin and it means "parting not forever but until we meet again". "Мы расстаёмся не навсегда - только до того времени, пока не встретимся". Also "Мы ещё встретимся, а пока жму вашу руку" - "we will meet again but until that/in the meanwhile, let me shake your hand". So logically "пока" can mean both "while X" and "while !X = until X" depending on the context ;)
