Can I use "play pretend" as "play dumb"?
I know "play pretend" is usually the children's roleplaying game, but I want to know if I can use it with the meaning 'to pretend that one doesn't know or doesn't understand something'.
Thanks!

You can't really use 'play pretend' as a substitute for 'play dumb'. It sounds a little childish.
Better to just use 'pretend' by itself as Josh suggests, or stick to 'play dumb'.

Play dumb would be the correct term, I wouldn't recommend using them interchangeably

No.
"Play dumb" means to pretend to be stupid.
No idea what "play pretend" means.

I would just say pretend and not play pretend.
