It's probably a flippant throwaway comment that was said in jest. It doesn't mean anything, she is simply poking fun at her friends knees.

'her male friend'. In english, words generally do not have gender.
Totally depends on the tone of voice. I would assume she's poking a bit of fun, but if they look stacked and muscled, it's a compliment.
