"Teaching background" means ones experience in teaching. If you've never taught anyone before you could say you don't have a teaching background. Although the word background is mostly used in terms of educational background, where you can talk about your college, university, degrees, year of passing, etc. "Teaching experience" is the appropriate term for this.
