What does "chaise and four" mean?
For examples: "he came down on Monday in a chaise and four to see the place"

I agree with Ewa: a chaise is a horse-drawn carriage used to transport people. Different sizes and configurations use different numbers of horses. A "chaise and four" refers to a carriage that requires a team of four horses.
