I have seen many books presented to me from Chinese students, with gap filling exercises that are not helpful. This question is one such "very good" example of one that is not useful. Where are the alternative choices/options to put into the gap?. then we can answer the second part of your question. I will make a guess the missing word might be "excited" or a similar meaning word.
