Sorani or Kurmanji? Every kurdish person I've asked speaks sorani, but when asked what is best to learn I find most places/people say to learn kurmanji. Why is this? What do you prefer, and why?

I disagree with that not because I speak Sorani, because Sorani is an education language in school college books many other sources written with sorani dialect.

I can recommend you kurmanci. Because main part of kurdish population speaks kurmanci. Of course sorani is important, because official language of Iraq's Kurdistan and half of Iran's Kurdistan speaks sorani. But you can use kurmanci all part of kurdistan (Turkey, Iran, Irak, Syria).
