As others have said, they both mean "three times," including in U.S. English, but "treble" is rarely used here -- the example of "treble damages" is the only one I can think of as well.

treble does appear in American English (used to indicate triple) but exclusively in the context of Law (e.g. treble damages). Otherwise, as mentioned, treble generally refers to higher frequencies in music.
