Hello Kamal,
It could also mean beside the above mentioned by fdmaxey:
- of greater importance or priority.
"The major part of ..."
- being of full legal age.
- In Britain it means the elder and is used after a schoolboy's surname if he has one or more younger brothers in the same school:
Kamal major
Not that you are necessarily the major , it is just an example ;)

Major has several meanings. The most used meaning is something big and important.
"The eruption of the volcano in Iceland has been a major disaster for the airline industry."
"A major earthquake has erupted in Chile."
"China has made major strides in its economy in the last twenty years."
The opposite of "major" is "minor"
"Major" is also a rank in the military, above a captain and below a colonel.
"Major" also refers to the main area of study in college. My major was mathematics.
