I am learning in the same way. I can recommend some sites which I use often:
- http://www.standardmandarin.com/chinesephrases (with audio)
- http://chinese.travel-way.net/ (with audio)
http://www.chinese-tools.com/phrasebook
Other than that, there are videos / channels on youtube.
All the best!

There are 100's of sites with Mandarin starting courses.
Just from the first google page:
http://www.chinese-tools.com/learn/chinese
http://www.bbc.co.uk/languages/chinese/real_chinese/
http://www.chinese-lessons.com/mandarin/
http://www.freechineselessons.com/lessons.php
http://www.clearchinese.com/learn-chinese/index.htm
My advise is, even you want Pinyin, have a good look at the characters anyway. It's easier then you think to learn a few and it really helps to remember (due to visual association).
