Hanyu Pinyin and actual Mandarin are two different sets of characters right?

There are however two sets of Chinese characters, simplified used in mainland China and traditional used in Taiwan!! Im not sure what set is used in Singapore though. You have used Traditional I have used simplified! Also Cantonese is written using traditional characters.

No! Chinese pinyin is the romanisation of hanzi ( Chinese characters) in pinyin there are no characters ie: 我是英国人! in pinyin is.. wo shi ying guo ren! . Pinyin is just a guide to help people correctly pronounce Hanzi
