what is the difference between 'in future' and 'in the future'?

In future.....means........from now onward.
In the future .....means .....at some future point in time
In future I'll do the dishes...........I will wash the dishes starting today.
I will do the dishes in the future.....I will wash the dishes at some future time (maybe years from now).

"In future" - it's a fixed expression meaning from this point in time onwards, for the point you're making. e.g. "I'll give you a warning this time, but in future please take more care".
"In the future" is for talking about some broader sense of things to come. e.g. "In the future we will colonize other planets".

in future : we would meet again in future.
in the future:we can have a time travel in the future.(the time is too long to wait)
