What is the "stuck" mean?
At the start of the first year in intant school, teachers seat pupils alphabetically from the front,to make it easier to remember their names. So shortsighted Zysman junior gets struck in the back row.
The last sentence is"So shortsighted Zysman junior gets stuck in the back row".I typed wrong.

stuck here is an adjective means unable to move or get away from an unpleasant situation
so this student although s/he has a sight problem can't change his or her seat to be able to see well
