I had a hard time with this, but it makes sense if you think about it.
很多 = very many
So naturally, it doesn't pair with 喜欢, as you can't say, I like it very many. You should use 非常 instead of 很多, as 非常 (feichang) just means 'very', and is the most commonly used intensifier.
Also, movies, TV shows and the like use the measure word 部 (bu) and not 个, though using 个 is ok as most people don't bother about being so precise all the time.
I would write your sentence as:

The second sentence is better. (那个电影我很喜欢) But I think the grammatically correct version would have 我 at the start (我很喜歡那個電影).
If you want to say you like it more than just 很 you can add all kinds of other superlatives to the sentence. For example- 真的很, 超級, 愛- so you could say:
(I really and very like that film)
(I super like that fillm)
(I love that film)
多 is more like saying a lot in quantity rather than a superlative to add to the amount you like something.. does that make sense?
