For example: Terence's dancing leaves a lot to be desired. Gertrude's singing leaves a lot to be desired. Alvin's Mum's cooking leaves a lot to be desired. Mabel's driving leaves a lot to be desired.

It means: "he doesn't have much that is desirable." Yes, we use this phrase a lot.

Yes, for sure....it means that the person didn´t do ,whatever the person did, the way it was expected...like ... the people that were seeing , didn´t get satisfied with what they have seen..
