What is the difference of reporter and journalist?

cowboy is close to reality, as reality is commonly understood. Reporter is one who "discovers" and "fabricates" the news (lets say it that way). Journalist is the one who elaborates the information. Reporters are an "endangered species", quite close to extinction. So, most probably, in today's circumstances, you better retain the figures of "infomation manager" and "information producer" and you will understand more what you are confronted with when paying attention to any media.
