What does "pu tong" mean?
It's got to do with frogs jumping into a pond.
Tiao means "jump, hop". But pu tong?

"Putong" means precisely 'plop' ,the characteristic sound made by an object dropping into water without a splash.
'A frog plopping into the pond' is a good example of such a sound.
P.S
It is " 扑通" in Hanzi , while "普通" means common, ordinary .

hi pu tong 扑通 is an onomatopoeic word it imitates the sound of a thing or an action. jump 跳tiao4 is verb. :)

I guess that what you mean. =)
